Analog Collage

My analog pieces consist of very precisely cut figures and colorful backgrounds. While printing images is certainly an option, I prefer to acquire mine organically, with the majority of my source material coming from old magazines such as Astronomy, National Geographic, and more. I am always on the lookout for bright colors, unique shapes, beautiful scenery, and other interesting elements. Because the hunt is certainly a part of my process, and I enjoy gathering scraps from museums, garage sales, flea markets, and friends. Lately, I have ventured into mixed media, using any type of recycled materials or otherwise disposed of objects I can get my hands on. These include, copper wire, old watches, broken plates, handmade paper, yarn, and even natural elements to supplement the paper components of my pieces.

Precise, almost surgical, cuttings are commonly found in my pieces, and I enjoy playing with both the repetition and juxtaposition of shapes and colors. Through the meticulous alignment of angles from seemingly unrelated elements come visual combinations that call into question one's perception of space and perspective. With a background in science, I am heavily influenced by the interactions of natural and celestial elements. The majority of my pieces hang in my home, however when my feelings can be best communicated through art, I enjoy gifting them to loved ones.
