Archival Work

Similar to my work as a curator, I initially stumbled upon my work as a student archivist through my Spanish coursework. The two experiences were very similar, with the importance of proper organization, whether it be of physical artifacts or digital records, being impossible to understate. Furthermore, libraries have always played central roles in my life, and I have long been fascinated by the storage and presentation of vast knowledge banks. Collections should be reflective of the communities that built them up and made them possible, which only happens when we consider the perspectives and wishes of the source community. In this sense, I view archival processes as the bridge between contributors and beneficiaries: students, teachers, historians, or community members. By working with archives such as the ONLO Collection, I developed a passion for ensuring information is readily available, especially when it is cultural in nature. Since this first experience, I have applied the perspectives and skills I gained towards other projects, such as my curatorial research. I hope to find new archival opportunities, perhaps related to medicine.
