La Clínica Latina

While in college, I volunteered at La Clínica Latina, a free clinic that serves Spanish-speaking residents of Central Ohio. Columbus has many community members who emigrated from Mexico, Puerto Rico, and other countries of Central and South America. I worked with other undergraduates, Ohio State medical students, and local physicians to dismantle language barriers to quality and affordable healthcare.

As a data entry volunteer, I analyzed patients' medical charts and organized their demographic information and medical history into a central database for future investigations. Additionally, I shadowed physicians as they saw patients and gained a better understanding of the medical conditions commonly faced by communities of color. I met other students and medical providers working with Spanish-speaking patients and applied my pre-med and Spanish course work in a clinical setting.
