MAPS

In college, I was heavily involved with the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), a student organization whose goal was to provide students of color with the resources, connections, and opportunities to continue their medical journeys. I held various leadership positions including Outreach Chair, Vice President, and Co-President. I hosted panel presentations, spoke in front of local physicians, and organized community service initiatives. At weekly meetings, other members and I held discussions about the problems faced by Black and brown communities in the US, the importance of representation in medicine, and the steps we needed to take to matriculate to medical school. These meetings allowed me to talk with people who had similar interests and goals, and helped me stay excited about medicine. Through the organization, I received mentorship from medical students at Ohio State and later passed along the same wisdom to my underclassmen.
