During my final semester at Ohio State, I served as a teaching assistant (TA) and grader for a course titled Human Biology in Cinema. Working with Professor Erica Szeyller, the course was a perfect way to wrap up my undergraduate career and combine two of my academic disciplines, biology and film studies, in one experience. As a TA, I led breakout room discussions, held weekly office hours, and graded assignments submitted by the 60 students enrolled in the course. Despite being administered virtually, the valuable classroom experience helped me better understand the educator's perspective with respect to commonly debated topics in higher education. I gained confidence explaining scientific concepts to others, and have since applied this skill to more recent work with PAST and See Brilliance.
